Grateful for our community

Grateful for our community

4 October 2022

Thank you for helping us raise over $140k in 140 days.

On May 12th we launched our campaign to raise $140,000 in 140 days. We knew this was an ambitious target, but we also knew that our community values the work that we do and would get behind us, our important program, and especially the students that we support.

We are proud to announce that we have raised $142,094!

Standing Tall in Hamilton Inc (STiH) Program Manager Dee Barrera says, “Setting a high fundraising target was a big challenge for us but we knew we had to give it a go. When Mel and I started in our roles here earlier this year, we calculated the cost to bring one student into the program, and to keep them in the program for a year. We worked it out to be a cost of $2000 per student per year. This may seem high for a not-for profit program supported by volunteers, but even not-for-profits must spend money to make things possible. In our case, this means spending money to run a safe and effective school-based mentoring program. The $2000 covers things such as program insurances, governance, mentor recruitment including processing applications, conducting interviews, security screening, on-board training, ongoing refresher training and resources, processing student referrals and planning and implementing mentoring sessions. The funds raised will help us support 71 students in the program which is wonderful.”

STiH President Rob Vecchiet says, "Launching this fundraiser has been really valuable in more ways than one. We are really grateful that our entire community, including businesses, clubs, schools, foundations and many individuals, have collectively helped us raise more than our target amount. We are also really proud to see that this campaign has helped us to engage the community more, ensuring more people know about our wonderful program and what we offer students in our schools”.

STiH has a formal partnership with 15 junior and senior schools, ensuring more students in need who would benefit from a mentor will have the opportunity to access one. Our school partners are:
