Standing Tall in Hamilton is a school-based mentoring program that works with students in grades 3 to 12 attending our partner schools.
Our Program provides a mentor for each student. Mentors offers positive guidance, support, routine and encouragement to students to help them develop a healthy connection to school and take advantage of the opportunities that education provides. We work in collaboration with local primary and secondary schools, and we are supported by many local community groups business and philanthropists.
Students currently studying in Years 3 to 12, who meet our eligibility criteria and wish to be involved may apply to be considered for the Program.
Mentors are carefully screened and trained and come from across the Southern Grampians Shire. They meet with their mentees for an hour each week. Activities include volunteering together, table tennis, games, and excursions, cooking and sharing hot lunches. The careful matching of mentees and mentors allows for the greatest program outcomes. The relationship continues for a minimum of 12 months, but frequently lasts for many years.
Sometimes our mentors sit and chat with their mentee, sometimes they do activities together, sometimes they play games, sometimes the coffee van arrives and the kids learn how to make hot chocolate!
Mentoring involves being there, listening, learning, supportingโฆ we say, "let the child lead and watch what happens". Youโll be pleasantly surprised at just how much you gain from the experience.
